Overview
Kawempe NRH is a 200-bed capacity hospital created by cabinet minute No. 23(2018) as a National Referral Hospital. We are located in Kampala, Kawempe Division approx. 6 km from the city center.
The hospital was Constructed in 2014 at about US$11.3 million or Shs. 42.9 billion under the Mulago Kampala City Council Project (MKCCAP) funded by African Development Bank project -AFDB and officially opened to the public in 2016 to decongest Mulago National Referral Hospital.
We offer specialized health care in obstetrics, Paediatrics, Adolescent health, HIV/AIDS care and Research. The Hospital was constructed to support the strategies of the Government of Uganda for the development of the health sector and to contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortalities through improvement of healthcare service delivery. One of the key objectives of the hospital is to operationalize and strengthen management systems through administrative services, and to contribute to the National Health Policy development through operational research.
The Hospital as the busiest labour ward in the whole of Africa delivering on average 65 babies in 24 hours and performing at least 10 major operations (Laplatomies) Per 24 hrs.
